FREE Summer Camp for Kids 2013 at your local Apple Store

At Apple Camp, kids ages 8-12 learn how to shoot their own footage, create an original song in GarageBand on an iPad, and put it all together in iMovie on a Mac. This free workshop, held at Apple Retail Stores, spans three days and ends with campers debuting their masterpieces at the Apple Camp Film Festival. Space is limited and workshops fill up quickly, so sign up now for a super-creative adventure.*

Day One (1.5 hours)
Get an introduction to the basics of moviemaking, including creating a storyboard.
Create an original soundtrack by making a song in GarageBand on an iPad.
Prepare for shooting footage outside the store overnight or inside the store at the end of the workshop. On day one, Apple Camp also includes an optional, one-hour Parents Workshop that will focus on using and setting parental controls on the Mac. Registration is not required.

Day Two (1.5 hours)
Get an introduction to iMovie — simple-to-use moviemaking software.
Use a Mac to import and edit collected movie footage, incorporating stills and music.
Create a film. With guidance from Apple Camp Counselors, kids will use iMovie — part of the iLife suite of creativity applications built into every Mac — to create, edit, and produce their films.

Day Three (Saturday morning, 1.5 hours)
Film Festival
Kids will have the opportunity to showcase their movies to invited parents, relatives, and friends. Participation in the festival is optional. Campers can take their completed movies home at the end of day two, if they prefer.

The Broward Homeschool PSG is going to Legoland on Sept 20th, 2012

Ole Kirk Christiansen started making wooden toys in his small workshop in Billund, Denmark in 1932. Two years later, Ole Kirk decided upon a name for his toys and his workshop – LEGO®, a contraction of the Danish words ‘leg godt,’ meaning ‘play well.’ Coincidentally, it was later learned that LEGO in Latin means “I put together” or “I assemble.”

In 1947, the company bought its first plastics injection-molding machine and in 1949 the forerunner to the LEGO brick was introduced, under the name “Automatic Binding Bricks”.

Inner tubes on the bricks were introduced in 1958, which significantly increased the number of possible building combinations. In 1967, the larger DUPLO® bricks for pre-school children were introduced, and LEGO TECHNIC for older children debuted in 1977. LEGO DACTA®, now know as The Educational Division, was set up in 1980.

It was the increasing interest in the fantastic LEGO masterpieces displayed at the factories that triggered Godtfred Kirk Christiansen’s idea of exhibiting the models outside. He originally envisioned just a little garden, where various LEGO models and figures could be displayed, but when work began on the project, it developed and became much larger.

In June 1968, LEGOLAND® Billund opened for the first time on a 9 acre site. All buildings, landscapes and vehicles were built using standard LEGO bricks, and the park’s success exceeded everyone’s expectations – in the first year alone, 625,000 happy visitors were guests at the park!

LEGOLAND Florida is geared specifically towards youngsters ages two through 12. With over 50 family rides, “hands-on” attractions and shows, LEGOLAND Florida provides education, adventure and fun in this second park of its kind in the United States.

In addition to LEGOLAND Florida (opening Fall 2011), there are currently 4 LEGOLAND parks in the world – LEGOLAND Billund in Denmark marked its 40th anniversary in 2008; LEGOLAND Windsor outside of London opened in 1996, and has been awarded the British Government’s top honor for excellence in academic programs, LEGOLAND California opened March 20, 1999  and LEGOLAND Deutschland in Germany opened the Spring of 2002.

LEGOLAND Florida is located at One LEGOLAND Way, Winter Haven Florida 33884, just 45 minutes from the Orlando theme parks or downtown Tampa.

From Orlando, take I-4 WEST to exit 55 (US Hwy 27 South). Turn right off U.S. Highway 27 at State Road 540/Cypress Gardens Boulevard. Park is four miles on the left.

From Tampa take I-4 EAST to Exit 27 (Polk County Parkway). Then take Exit 14 to Winter Haven (2nd Toll Booth) by turning east on S.R. 540  and follow eight miles to Hwy 17 North. Turn left to take Hwy 17 North two miles over the bridge to Cypress Gardens Boulevard and turn right. Legoland Way will be on your right.

If using a GPS system, keep in mind that LEGOLAND Florida may not yet be included as a destination. A secondary address for GPS systems is 6000 Cypress Gardens Boulevard, Winter Haven FL 33884.

Chick-fil-A target by activists

Gov. Mike Huckabee urges people who support natural marriage to eat at a Chick-fil-A on August 1.

Because Chick-fil-A supports natural marriage, homosexual activists and their supporters in the liberal media want to do Chick-fil-A harm.  Here is what Gov. Mike Huckabee said about the stand supporting natural marriage Chick-fil-A has taken.

“I have been incensed at the vitriolic assaults on the Chick Fil-A company because the CEO, Dan Cathy, made comments recently in which he affirmed his view that the Biblical view of marriage should be upheld.

“The Cathy family, led by Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy, are a wonderful Christian family who are committed to operating the company with Biblical principles and whose story is the true American success story. Starting at age 46 Truett Cathy built Chick-fil-A into a $4 billion a year enterprise with over 1600 stores. At 91, he is still active in the company, but his son Dan runs it day to day as CEO. It’s a great American story that is being smeared by vicious hate speech and intolerant bigotry from the left.”

Mark the day: August 1.  Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. All day long!
Don’t carry signs or have speeches.  Just go and eat a good meal.

Let us do what Governor Huckabee is urging.  “Too often, those on the left make corporate statements to show support for same sex marriage, abortion, or profanity, but if Christians affirm traditional values, we’re considered homophobic, fundamentalists, hate-mongers, and intolerant. This effort is not being launched by the Chick-fil-A company and no one from the company or family is involved in proposing or promoting it.”

Free Bowling for kids this summer

Already planning what do this summer? Have you consider bowling.

Bowling is one of the most popular sports in the world. One of the reasons for its popularity is its adaptability: children and adults of nearly every ability level can participate, and it can be enjoyed as a leisure, recreational and social activity or as a competitive opportunity. Children too young to execute a full approach can stand near the foul line and, using two hands, gleefully shove the ball down the lane. Teenagers, middle-aged people, even octogenarians frequent the lanes. Bowling leagues abound. No other sport in the world has such a diversity of participants.

So where can I go bowling for free?

  • At AMF Davie Lanes you can bowl for free this summer. All you have to do is register to get your weekly coupons via email for two free games per child per day all summer long. More information at

Have fun and happy bowling!
